Dayton Nursing Home Names December Resident of the Month
December 6, 2019December’s Resident of the Month is Linda Phelps! She’s been a resident at Respiratory and Nursing Center of Dayton for 6 years and has a special place in the hearts of those that she meets. Born in the small town of Gano, Ohio, Linda was the youngest of five children. One of the things that she loved the most about Gano was her church. It’s where she learned to play the piano and discovered her love for singing. Music was her first creative outlet but not her last. Linda’s skills as a stained glass artist allowed her to open her own studio. She still keeps her first stained glass project in her room as a memento. She also worked as an STNA and owned a salon as a hairstylist. Being the social butterfly that she is, she cherished the relationships that she formed with her clients. Linda is also a talented seamstress. Her youngest daughter, Julie, came to her in 1988 with a photo of a Gunne Sax dress in a teen magazine. Linda replicated the beautiful dress adding her own personal touches. Julie couldn’t have been happier to sport to it to prom. This is one of Linda’s most cherished memories and to this day, she looks back at those prom photos with joy in her heart. As a woman of many hats with a variety of accomplishments, she’s most proud of being a mother to her four children.
Now, Linda likes to spend time reading, writing poetry, and singing. As a member of the Singing Songbirds (our resident choir), she’ll be performing a solo at our Christmas concert on December 18th. Linda also has a huge heart for animals and admires the birds in our aviary on a daily basis. As our resident of the month, we offered to gift her an item of her choice. Instead of requesting a gift for herself, she asked us to make a donation to the ASPCA. She has overcome adversity while displaying selflessness and grace. We are so glad that she’s a part of the Respiratory and Nursing Center of Dayton family!
